Because our systems go on existing street lighting columns and buildings, installation is quick and quiet. A typical town centre system is up and running in days, with no trenches, no road closures and very little for residents or traders to notice.

1) What installation involves

• Fixing cameras and wireless units to lighting columns or buildings, usually from our own cherry picker.
• Connecting to the column's existing power supply.
• Setting up the recorder and viewing software wherever the council wants it – council office, police station or both.
• Walking through each camera with you to confirm the view is what was agreed on the plan.

2) Highways and safety

Any work that touches the highway is carried out with a HERS-registered contractor, so it meets the standards your highways authority expects. We have dealt with highways departments on many installations and handle that side for you.

3) Who does the work

Redhand is run by the people who design and install the systems. We bring our own electrical and high-level access capability through our sister companies, so we are not waiting on third parties to turn up.

4) Handover

Before we leave, the people who will use the system are shown how to view live cameras, find and export footage and who to call if anything needs attention. We keep the explanation short and practical.

5) Common questions

5.1) How long does it take?

Most systems of five to ten cameras are installed within a few days once equipment is on site. Larger towns take longer; we give you a realistic timescale in the proposal.

5.2) Will the town centre be disrupted?

Very little. There is no digging, so no road or footpath closures. Work on a column typically takes an hour or two.
